Tools & guides
- 01 Gonemaster gonemaster.evilbit.de A free DNS health checker. Runs more than 80 test cases against every authoritative nameserver for a zone (basics, address records, connectivity, consistency, delegation, DNSSEC and zone data), then returns a score out of 100 and a grade from A+ to F. Web interface plus a public HTTP API.
- 02 Gonemaster Analysis (TLDs) gonemaster.evilbit.de/analysis The same checks run across many domains at once, so you can compare DNS, delegation, DNSSEC and nameserver health between top-level domains rather than one zone at a time.
- 03 Choosing a public DNS resolver evilbit.de/dns-resolver-guide A guide to 30 global public resolvers, compared on privacy and logging, filtering, encrypted transports, DNSSEC validation, ECS behaviour and jurisdiction. Includes a filter to narrow the field, a latency test that runs from your own browser, and a summary of what the peer-reviewed research actually says.
- 04 BitTorrent Infrastructure Tracker tracker.evilbit.de Measurement of the infrastructure behind public BitTorrent trackers: who runs it, where it sits and whether it is up.
About
evilbit.de is the personal site of Patrik Wallström. It hosts free tools and reference material about the Domain Name System: zone health, delegation, DNSSEC, and the resolvers people use to reach any of it, plus some other infrastructure measurement alongside.
Everything here is free to use, and the tools are built to be scriptable as well as clickable.
